South Conservation Group: Presentations from Oxford Brookes University Future Architects

We have two future architects from Oxford Brookes University sharing their projects and views with the group for our June online talk.

RIBA South Conservation Group welcomes two future architects from Oxford Brookes University, sharing projects where they have been focusing on regenerative development and design, specifically exploring the potential of the place.

The theoretical framework proposed by the Regenesis Institute, as articulated in the book Regenerative Development and Design: A Framework for Evolving Sustainability (Mang & Reed, 2012) underpins the approach. One of the definitions that is being adopted for the design part is: regenerative design “an approach in which human systems are designed to co-exist and co-evolve with natural systems over time” (UK Architects Declare, 2024, p.8)

The two projects that will be presented are examples of how regenerative development and design might manifest in design studios within academia and hopefully inform an urgent paradigm shift in the journey towards a flourishing future (Ichioka & Pawlyn, 2021).

Join us to hear from Tom Bishop on his project: bioregional hub on a tributary of the River Thames in Oxford, and Jahnavi Jayashankar, presenting her project titled: Hosted! by Falkland, a regenerative retrofit proposal for a dilapidated farm steading in Fife, Scotland.

About the Speakers
