This is a free event, and we welcome everyone – architects, other built environment professionals, students, families, and friends.
Mercia School is a new striking secondary school built on a former landfill site and winner of the RIBA Yorkshire Award 2019. A simple palette of materials is used to allow it to sit harmoniously in the parkland setting. Care has been taken to ensure it allows community integration, through community access to the wider open space, and including a separate sports facility for the community. Achieving a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of "Very Good," the school has a 30% energy saving on the target emission rate.
