Established in 2018 by the RIBA Young Architectural Practitioner's Forum, Skills for Success is now in its fifth successful year. Skills for Success aims to provide young architects with additional skills to excel their professional development and benefit their practices. It is an annual celebration of knowledge sharing in the region delivered across four events with a unified theme.
This year, the YAPF is organising open public lectures and discussions focusing on ‘Brown to Green’ regeneration stories from four architectural firms. Due to the inherent complexity of urban brownfields and their intermediate scale at the neighbourhood level, regeneration initiatives do not unfold spontaneously. In fact, urban brownfield redevelopment projects often face various types of impediments and obstacles, which can be categorised into four distinct groups: sociocultural hindrances, governance complications stemming from the involvement of multiple stakeholders, legal and regulatory constraints, and financial deterrents.
In two sessions of ‘Urban Rejuvenation: Transitioning from Brown to Green’, we will invite four award-winning architectural studios to share their regeneration stories on the ‘Brown to Green’ transition, tackling four different themes – ‘Culture-driven’, ‘Sustainability’ ‘Mixed-use’ and ‘Livable’.
These sessions will provide useful insights for young architects and urban planners to implement and embrace planning regulation, policy, finance and government for people-centred and sustainable regenerations in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
