Who are Allies and Morrison?

Allies and Morrison offers an exceptional track record in masterplanning and architecture. Our designs are contextually appropriate, rooted in strong urban principles, and focused on creating vibrant, liveable cities.

We have developed a portfolio of over 60 projects in the region, spanning a variety of scales—from individual sites to entire city quarters. Our services cover the full design process, from initial feasibility studies and strategic plans to detailed guidelines and continued support throughout delivery of individual buildings and spaces. We place a strong emphasis on collaborating with value-driven clients to create strategies that ensure steady progress and maintain momentum over the lifetime of a project.

How do you describe your approach to design?

Our portfolio includes some of Europe’s most significant regeneration projects, such as London’s King’s Cross and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We’ve worked on sites as diverse as Muscat in Oman to Penn District in New York City, always drawing on local precedents and conditions.

Since our founding in 1984, the work of Allies and Morrison has always resonated with context. This commitment guides our work in the Arabian region, where we strive to merge traditional and contemporary design. Through built projects, masterplans, and proposals across the region, we’ve developed an architectural and urban design approach that honours the past while looking toward the future.

In working with us, clients will encounter a dedicated team with a wealth of knowledge across most project types. Behind the success of each of these projects is an enjoyment in creative collaboration with clients, users, fellow designers and specialists.

What does your work bring to the Middle East?

Our portfolio features some of the region’s most influential urban projects, including the Msheireb Downtown Doha regeneration, where we served as both the architectural lead for the masterplan and the designers of 30+ buildings. Another highlight has been Madinat al Irfan, a masterplan for a sustainable and compact urban extension for Muscat, Oman. From key worker housing to cultural revitalisation, we’ve worked across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, and Lebanon.

What are some key projects you have delivered in the region?

Msheireb Downtown Doha is a standout project. It won a RIBA International Award and, in many ways, it has led to subsequent commissions across the region which embrace its sustainable, walkable ethos and its cultural sensitivity. There has been a lot of urban expansion in the region, and our approach offers a way for cities and developers to deal with this in progressive and imaginative ways.

Why work with us?

From London and Manchester, from Jeddah to Doha, dramatically changing skylines are a clear testament to the scale and ambition of redevelopment and expansion that our urban areas are currently undergoing. Yet despite this geographic diversity, much of what is being built looks the same. How can we counter generic development in the design of growing cities? This is what we aim to do, and have been able to deliver.
