Area of Expertise: Architecture
We are a multi-award winning AJ100 architectural practice with projects throughout the UK and Europe. The team are a creative and talented group who listen to clients to create sustainable buildings which blend robust functionality with thoughtful and inspiring design.
Oberlanders studios provide bespoke design services to a multitude of sectors with specialists who bring a mix of experience and skills nuanced to every project. This means they design to their client’s aspirations, not to a signature style.
They are one team drawn from sixteen nationalities which brings a diversity of thought that they are extremely proud of. The passion Oberlanders has for their work creates trust and exceptional outcomes for clients.
By committing time upfront to listen, pushing the art of thoughtful design and keeping to their word through honest and transparent communication, they add tangible value to projects.

Tell us about your practice? What do you stand for?
Listening closely, creating together and delivering better are the core values of how we work. With studios across the UK and established around our own communities, we are personally invested in the work we do. Culturally, we pride ourselves on diversity, with over 50% of staff being not male, and enabling success, whatever success may mean to each employee.
What differentiates you from other architects? How do you describe your approach to the design?
Our designs are client led and entirely bespoke, with a commitment to delivery at each RIBA stage of design meaning projects have the same lead architect throughout. Our passion for human-centric design means we consider the holistic impact, both on the people who use the space and those in surrounding communities. We are recognised for creating high quality deliverable designs, realising the most complex of projects on time and on budget.
What projects are you currently working on?
Our Healthcare team continue to create designs which have a transformational impact on patient care, while our residential team have broken new ground on quality and sustainable, affordable housing design. We have major Innovation Hub projects in design which will serve as incubator and growth space for businesses in the food, drink, science and technology spaces.
What kind of clients do you work with? Why do clients come to you?
There is real depth to our client base, from small community organisations through to global technology giants, which allows us to cross pollinate ideas and innovate in our designs. We design projects of true value and our clients trust us to deliver.
What have been the highlights for you in the past year?
Having celebrated our second year as an AJ100 practice, we have continued our expansion out with the UK. We completed two major research facilities and many projects have been recognised with industry awards including ‘Tillydrone Affordable Housing’ and the evolution of clinical service redesign for NHS Highland which included the design and delivery of three new hospitals.
What is your special focus for Cityscape Global 2024?
We see synergies between the opportunities arising in KSA and the value we deliver. Our work is centred around the philosophy of contributing to the greater good through sustainable design which serves our communities. Cityscape is a chance to explore this, make new connections and we are proud to do that in collaboration with RIBA.
Is there anything exciting on the horizon?
We’re excited to build our UK portfolio and expand our presence across the globe. We continue in our roles with the ‘IDeA Network’, a global collective of Architects with a shared philosophy of collaboration and our work in establishing a UK Chapter of ‘I2SL’, who are committed to supporting transformative action to reduce carbon emissions in science and research. With the opportunity to extend our clinical service redesign work into new regions through the ‘National Treatment Centre Programme’, it’s set to be another productive year.
