What is WMA?

  • We are an ambitious design-led architecture studio based in London and Paris;
  • We have a global outlook and a multi-national team;
  • We deliver exciting and elegant designs that set the highest standards;
  • We are experienced at working at all scales and with all typologies;
  • We thrive in unusual projects for demanding clients, with the biggest challenges and with the greatest impact.

What do we stand for?

The ethos of the practice is driven by a determination to understand the spirit of the places in which we build. We are not driven by dogma or protocol – every project is approached differently, depending on the context, the brief, the client and the unique challenges that every building has. If there is a common thread that runs through our work, it is a sense of humanity – the importance of people, as end users and as collaborators in the design process.

How do we design?

Our method of working is participatory: we want clients, engineers and specialist consultants to contribute from the beginning of a project and throughout the design process. We recognise that we will always be part of a team and whilst individuals can provide leadership only teams can deliver successful projects.

What projects are we currently working on?

Much of our work is won through design competitions and the team has been very successful over the past years, winning commissions throughout Europe, North America and the Gulf, including KSA. Current projects range from a 100,000m2 office development in downtown Vancouver, to a ski resort in Bulgaria, and to a small cultural centre in Togo, West Africa.

Why are we at Cityscape Global 2024?

As the world rapidly urbanises, the scale and ambition of the projects in Saudi Arabia are a real opportunity to set the highest standards, not just nationally but also for other countries in the wider region. The Kingdom is also endowed with a rich and fascinating history, with countless heritage sites that are ready to be revealed to a global audience. We want to contribute to this transformation and to help develop a resilient regional architecture that responds to local needs.

What is the greatest opportunity of our time?

To harness the computational power of AI to give a clearer understanding of how we live, of our needs and our excesses, and how we can then improve our lives through informed and intelligent design.
