The RIBA International team collaborates with partner organisations such as the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), British Embassies based overseas, the British Council, and international institutes of architects, to champion excellence in architecture globally and to promote mobility across the profession.
Through this work, we aim to help RIBA Members export their skills. We provide:
- Information regarding accessing opportunities in international markets and join the UK Government Trade Missions to specific markets
- Guidance on working overseas and entering new markets - We attend trade shows to promote RIBA and our members, such as MIPIM and Cityscape.

Our priority markets
RIBA’s priority markets remain the Gulf, incl. KSA, China, the USA and Europe. While we follow the lead of the UK Government in its approach to international markets, we are also looking at opportunities in other markets, and we aim to provide you with the necessary information for you to work in those markets.
RIBA’s Ethical Principles
RIBA promotes the highest standards in the built environment and supports the transfer of knowledge and skills worldwide. Breaking down barriers and making architecture more inclusive remains central to RIBA’s work.
RIBA follows the lead of the UK Government in its approach to international markets and looks to advice from relevant departments and partner organisations across the built environment, where appropriate.
Wherever RIBA members are working, our Code of Professional Conduct and Code of Practice outline core responsibilities, including considering the impact of any professional activity on the environment and society Chartered Practices working internationally should ensure that they are upholding universal principles on human rights, labour, and anti-corruption within their projects and through their supply chains.
